Asbestos-ceramic refers to kinds of pottery or ceramics that are made by mixing asbestos with clay, which used to be a common practice. Though newer homes are not built using asbestos, until the 1970s, asbestos was often mixed with clay in order to create firmer and more fire-resistant building tiles. Homes built in the 1970s or before might still have tiles in them that were made with asbestos, which can be dangerous if the asbestos fibers are released, either through wear and tear, or remodeling damages.
