A company owned by developer Bob Knapp may face heavy fines due to allegations that it violated asbestos safety procedures during its renovation of the Equitable Building in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The Iowa DNR said that it believed the company failed to follow established safety guidelines, which may have exposed thousands of people to dangerous levels of asbestos in 2006-2007.
The DNR is asking the Environmental Protection Commission to refer the case to the state attorney general’s office.
