Washington State Court of Appeals Rules on Secondary Mesothelioma Exposure

by Administrator 25. March 2008 10:03
Mesothelioma, a cancer of the chest lining, is caused by exposure to asbestos. It can take as long as 40 years to manifest itself. However, once diagnosed, mesothelioma patients typically have only months to live. It has been found that secondary exposure to asbestos can cause mesothelioma. A ruling by a Washington State Court of Appeals allows victims of secondary asbestos exposure living in the same home to make a claim for their asbestos related diseases such as asbestos cancer, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. Lawrence Rochon was working for 49 years in an work area where he was exposed to asbestos. His wife Adline used to wash his work clothes everyday. She got exposed to this secondary asbestos and contacted mesothelioma, and eventually died. To learn more, contact the Mesothelioma Lawyers at Williams Kherkher.

$20 Million Verdict in Asbestos Case in San Franscisco

by Administrator 25. March 2008 10:03
Joan Mahoney and her husband Daniel Mahoney won a $20 million dollar verdict in an asbestos lawsuit in San Francisco County Superior Court in California. Mrs. Mahoney used to work part time in her family business of construction. Her husband was also active in this business. They built or remodelled in excess of 200 houses through the three decades of 1970, 1980 and 1990. As part of their remodelling work they used Georgia Pacific’s asbestos-containing joint compound. This constant exposure to the asbestos in the compound led Mrs. Mahoney to contact the debilitating and fatal lung cancer Mesothelioma.  The court ruled that Georgia Pacific knew about the disease but continued to making this asbestos-containing joint compound when all other companies had stopped. $7 Million Awarded in Asbestos, Mesothelioma Suit

by Administrator 24. March 2008 17:03
A San Francisco awarded a $7 million verdict to the plaintiffs in a mesothelioma lawsuit against asbestos manufacturer Georgia Pacific Corp. Joan and John Mahoney sued Georgia Pacific, claiming that the asbestos it produced was the cause of Mrs. Mahoney's mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is an incurable, terminal cancer linked to exposure to airborne asbestos fibers. The plaintiffs alleged that Georgia Pacific was negligent in continuing to manufacture asbestos even though they knew of its harmful effects. The total verdict handed down by the jury was in the amount of $20 million. Of that, Georgia Pacific's assigned responsibility covers approximately 1/3, or $7 million. The rest of the award will most likely not be paid.
