According to Eli Lilly & Co., the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Alimta as a treatment for advanced forms of lung cancer, including mesothelioma.

The drug was approved as an initial treatment for cancer alongside cisplatin, the chemotherapy drug. Originally, Alimta was approved as a secondary treatment for lung cancer to be used after chemotherapy. As new drugs are developed, the fight against cancer becomes more and more manageable.
