Crestwood Middle School in Chesapeake, VA had to be evacuated on its second day of school because of asbestos in the air. Construction workers uncovered some asbestos covered pipes while the school was still on winter break. However, the students were allowed to come back to school on Monday. They were evacuated when the air tests came back revealing a high asbestos count.
According to the health department, the children are not in danger from the day and a half of asbestos exposure. However, the samples were described as dangerous levels of asbestos. The students have been allowed to come back to school and the asbestos is no longer at dangerous levels. There is still asbestos containing material in the school, but it should be safe as long as it is undisturbed.
Asbestos is a very dangerous material. Exposure can lead to medical conditions such as asbestosis and mesothelioma. If you or someone you know has been exposed to asbestos, contact the asbestos exposure lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-220-9341.
