District 19 in Hebron, IL is considering whether they should completely remove or simply seal the asbestos floors of the high school over spring break. The school board will open bids for the work on February 27 and plans to make a decision by March 3. At that point, they will either seal or remove the asbestos tiles in the joint high school and middle school.
Currently, the school is dealing with possible hazards by sealing them with duct tape. While the air is currently safe, this is not a viable long term solution to asbestos. The asbestos will have to be removed or sealed soon. One of the deciding factors may come to whether a new building will be built soon enough that removal would be a less financially sound option.
