The Monroe County Housing Authority has announced plans to remove asbestos lining from pipes in 50 different public housing buildings. The removals are scheduled to occur throughout 2009. Most of the affected buildings are located in Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg and Stroud Township. The housing authority claims that the public is not at risk of exposure to this asbestos.
Asbestos is an incredibly dangerous substance. Removing asbestos requires hiring a specialized firm to come out and safely remove the asbestos. If this does not occur, the asbestos could become friable, or airborne, and could lead to exposure and mesothelioma.
