Vermont Health Dept Will Rerelease Asbestos Mine Study

by Administrator 27. February 2009 10:13

In a study released by the Vermont Health Department, it was stated that living within a 10 mile radius of the abandoned Belvidere Mountain asbestos mine increased the risk of asbestosis. However, it was later released that the study was improperly conducted. The Vermont Health Department is now planning on rereleasing the study in early April with updated information.

So far, new data is pointing to occupational hazards causing an increased risk of asbestosis. This would mean that the residents of the towns around this mine would not have to worry about asbestos exposure from simply living near the mine. Once the health department conducts a proper study of the area, the information will be released.

Judge Limits Expert's Testimony

by Administrator 27. February 2009 09:50

Two days into the asbestos case over WR Grace and Libby, Montana, the judge has made a ruling that limits the testimony of the Environmental Protection Agency official who orchestrated the Libby mine cleanup. The judge has ordered this official to refrain from discussing any scientific data in the trial.

The entire city of Libby, Montana was exposed to asbestos and a large percentage of the population has been diagnosed with mesothelioma. The prosecutors allege that WR Grace and the owners of the mine knowingly mined asbestos laden vermiculite without informing any of the workers or city residents of the dangers.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, contact the Montana mesothelioma attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-781-3955.

New Bill Could Make Texas Mesothelioma Claims Easier

by Administrator 27. February 2009 09:39

In the current Texas court system, mesothelioma sufferers who are seeking compensation must meet the same legal requirements as those who are suffering from asbestosis. This can make it very difficult for some victims to have their cases heard in their lifetimes. However, a new bill may lower the causation standard, making it easier for mesothelioma sufferers to prove their cases.

In addition to helping mesothelioma sufferers get the compenstation that they deserve, this bill will protect defendants who should not be held liable. In some cases, defendants who had no part in exposing victims to asbestos can still be held liable. This bill would keep those defendants safe while holding accountable those who really are liable.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, contact the Texas mesothelioma attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-781-3955.

Utica City Hall Shut Down after Asbestos Scare

by Administrator 26. February 2009 12:12

City Hall in Utica, New York had to shut down on Wednesday afternoon because of an asbestos scare. Subcontractors were working in a stairwell when they uncovered and disturbed some asbestos aroun 3:30pm. As a result, City Hall had to shut down and will probably not reopen until next week. Until then, the asbestos will be removed and the air will be tested for friable asbestos.

The asbestos disturbance was caused in part by a miscommunication. According to federal regulation, the building owner should tell the contractor that asbestos may be present. The contractor then relays the information to the subcontractor. Unfortunately, this information was not passed along and so the subcontractors were not looking for asbestos.

If you or someone you know has been exposed to asbestos, contact the New York mesothelioma attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-781-3955.

Mesothelioma Hits Australia's DIY Enthusiasts

by Administrator 26. February 2009 11:18

For decades, citizens of Australia have been performing renovations and building new structures in their homes. Unfortunately, this has led to asbestos exposure and subsequent mesothelioma for many of those tens of thousands of people. Thes people are making up what some are calling the "third wave" of mesothelioma victims.

The first two waves came from asbestos manufacturing, then working with asbestos in shipyards, construction and many other blue collar jobs. Now, renovators are being diagnosed with mesothelioma because they accidentaly uncovered asbestos in their homes over the last thirty years. Not only does this affect the people who performed the renovations, but the children who watched their parents while they worked are being diagnosed as well.

Mesothelioma is a terrible cancer. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, contact the mesothelioma attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-781-3955.
