Certified Environmental Services Inc of Syracuse, New York has been charged on 16 counts of falsifying reports of air quality tests in asbestos abatement projects. The faked reports were used to tell building owners that the buildings were safe again. To accomplish this, CES had to give fake test results from air quality tests, showing little to no asbestos in the air.
However, a lawyer for CES counters that the company was not criminal in its actions and that it should receive a fine rather than be charged with Clean Air Act violations. The lawyer also said that the company did not believe it was putting its clients in any health risk. However, what they believed does not change that six buildings in which they "abated asbestos" still contain the dangerous substance.
