The town of Marshall, North Carolina for several serious violations of asbestos abatement procedure. The North Carolina Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Division issued a notification of penalty for $1,750 on June 5. The notification cites failure to properly protect workers from asbestos during renovations as one of the main reasons for the fines.
The citations come as a result of renovations to the new town hall. An architect associated with the project reported a possible asbestos violation to OSHA earlier in the year, leading to an inspection in April. In that inspection, OSHA found that the asbestos was improperly removed and that workers were being put at risk of asbestos exposure.
