Asbestos Definition Could Expand

Posted on July 30th, 2009 No Comments

Research into mesothelioma may require an expansion of the definition of asbestos. Currently, the University of Minnesota is conducting a study of 1,200 mine workers and 800 spouses in Iron Range, Minnesota. These people have been exposed to a mineral called taconite through mining and have exposed their families by bringing it home on their clothes.

The mineral has caused medical problems in many of the miners and their family members that greatly resembles asbestosis and mesothelioma. Because of this, asbestos may be redefined to include taconite as a form. However, the study will take about 5 years to complete and any change to the definition of asbestos will likely not occur until then.

If you or someone you know has been exposed to asbestos, contact the asbestos attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-781-3955.
