The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization used Labor Day as an opportunity to again to call for a complete ban on asbestos, a substance that has been known to cause mesothelioma and other serious life-threatening diseases. They chose Labor Day to highlight the fact that many workers throughout the country are still exposed to asbestos on a regular basis, sometimes without their knowing, because the US still has no full ban on the substance. They requested that Congress would pass bills in both houses that would ban asbestos. The spokesman of the group is Jordan Zevon, son of the famous musician Warren Zevon, who died of mesothelioma in 2003.
