A new study being conducted jointly by the Wake Forest School of Medicine and FirstHealth Carolinas is being undertaken to investigate a possible genetic predisposition to developing mesothelioma. The woman leading the study, Dr. Jill Ohar of Wake Forest, has spent 20 years exloring the reason mesothelioma seems to only emerge in certain people who come into contact with asbestos; some people who handle asbestos their whole professional life will never develop cancer from it, while others who only come into contact with it a few times will die from mesothelioma. The study will hopefully shed light on one of the mysteries of mesothelioma, and help shape the way the deadly disease is treated in the future.
