Researchers in Turkey have found a new biological marker which will allow for better diagnosis of mesothelioma. The marker is called D2-40, and is already in use in other medical capacities. The researchers believe that it will help doctors distinguish between malignant mesothelioma and pulmonary adenocarcinomas.
Under the microscope, malignant mesothelioma, benign mesothelioma, and pulmonary adenocarcinomas are difficult to distinguish from one another. The D2-40 marker should make it easier for people in the lab to identify and combat mesothelioma by catching it more effectively.
