The youngest patient ever diagnosed with Mesothelioma had two different benefits thrown for him.  There was a bike run on Saturday, June 5 in Taylor Falls with raffles, a silent auction, a hog roast and musical entertainment.  The next day there was a benefit picnic thrown in the 12-year-old boy's honor.  Food served at the picnic included hot dogs, burgers, salads, desserts and beverages.  There were also carnival games and live entertainment was provided by several different groups.  The seventh grader received his surprising diagnosis in March of 2010.  Only three children have ever been diagnosed with mesothelioma since it is a disease that generally lays dormant for a while after exposure to asbestos. It ususally takes about 10 to 20 years to show up in adult lungs.

However, the tumors from the 12-year-old's disease were found in his abdomen, not his lungs.   The boys parents noticed that he seemed to be losing weight.  He also appeared to be tired all the time and suffered from headaches and nausea very often.  The child underwent a 13-hour long invasive surgery last month but doctor's predict that his disease will be a lifelong battle.

Students at the University of New Hampshire participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life to raise awareness and funds for a fellow student who recently lost her battle to cancer.

A UNH senior found the fundraiser bittersweet because his girlfriend and fellow student recently died of nueroblastoma and mesothelioma. The student is still mourning the loss of his girlfriend but says that particiapting in the event has helped him cope because they are raising money to help research cancer and find a cure. The event raised over $69,000.

A West Virigina woman who lost her husband to mesothelioma is suing 160 companies in a mesothelioma lawsuit.

The woman is claiming that the companies failed to warn or protect her husband about the dangers of asbestos material. Her husband was later diagnosed with mesothelioma and asbestosis as a result of working so closely with asbestos. Because mesothelioma may not surface for 20 to 50 years, it can be difficult to tell exaclty where a person was exposed. The woman is seeking a trial by jury to resolve the lawsuit.

A Denver man has been indicted after allegations of improper disposal of asbestos material.

After the asbestos removal from his company on three different sites, he put it into storage instead of properly disposing it. He was indicted in nine counts after the accusation. He was also charged with failure to label the asbestos material properly. If convicted, the man could see up to fiver years in prison.
