Rail Workers Sue CSX for Asbestos Exposure

by Administrator 12. March 2010 18:53

Four former CSX employees in Tampa, Florida have filed a lawsuit alleging the company is responsible for the asbestos-related lung cancer they have developed.

The lawsuit was filed by four men who say that over the past forty years they were never warned by CSX about the health risks associated with long term asbestos exposure. Jerry B. Brown, James R. givens, James Toombs, and William F. Triner were all diagnosed with asbestos related lung cancer between 2007 and 2009.

Court documents show that each of the men, though working different positions at the transportation company, were required during the course of their duties to work in areas where they were "heavily exposed" to asbestos. The lawsuit claims that the company failed to provide the men with respirators or any other form of protective gear.

Asbestos exposure has been linked to mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the lungs as well as other tissues in the chest and abdominal cavities.

by Administrator 12. March 2010 15:46

Merlin Olsen, one of the strongest NFL players in history, died of mesothelioma cancer on March 11, 2010 at the age of 69.

An NFL Hall of Famer, televison actor and comedian lost his battle with mesothelioma, which his family claims he developed from exposure to asbestos. His family thinks that it was during his acting career that he was exposed to asbestos and led to the development of mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that is caused by asbestos materials being lodged in a person's lung.

In December 2009, his family filed suit against multiple companies, including NBC studios. Olsen also claimed that he was exposed to asbestos during his younger years working as a manual laborer after school.

Asbestos found in Pennsylvania high school

by Administrator 10. March 2010 18:07

In February, a high school in Pennsylvania found over 60,000 square feet of asbestos filled tiles.

The substitute superintendent has said that he doesn't think that the school will be closed for an entire year while removing the asbestos. The goal is to tightly control the removal process so that people who are in seperate areas of the building will not be put in a harmful situation. Investogators have said that the school also has toxic glue holding the carpets down so the process will involve more than just the asbestos removal. They are considering moving the students to another school for one year, but a formal decision has not yet been made.
