A play has been written and will be performed in Leeds, England based on the true story of a mesothelioma victim's legal battle in the 1990s. June Hankcock was exposed to asbestos as a child when her family moved to Armley, England in 1936. At school, she and the other children were exposed to asbestos while playing outside near a factory.
In 1993, Hancock was diagnosed with mesothelioma with a prognosis of two years. She used her time to fight a legal battle against the owners of the factory that caused her cancer. In 1996, Hancock won her case against factory owners Turner and Newall. This victory allowed for many of the other children exposed with her to pursue justice from the factory.
