Ambler, Pennsylvania and the surrounding area was put on the EPA's National Superfund List in April because of the massive quantities of asbestos at the BoRit site. As a result, the EPA is taking steps to nullify the dangers of that asbestos. One of those measures may be an attempt to bury the asbestos. However, locals are opposed to this particular tactic because it has not worked in the past.
After obtaining 2,000 signatures on a petition, the citizens of Ambler went to their congressman, Senator Arlen Specter. Specter has since urged the EPA to consider completely removing the asbestos from the site, destroying it or recycling it. Any of these methods would ensure the safety of the surrounding communities.
