Preparing a Will
Every cancer patient faces the difficult task of remaining optimistic but realistic at the same time. The old expression “Hope for the best, but plan for the worst” may say it best. If you do not already have a will, or if yours has not been updated for some time, this is an issue you need to consider.
Mesothelioma attorneys Williams Kherkher want to help you and your family cope during this difficult time. To learn about the legal services we offer, contact our offices at 800-781-3955.
Wills Step by Step
This page can only provide a general overview of the will preparation process. Certain legal requirements may vary from state to state. Generally, the steps for preparing a will are:
- Inventory your major assets. Record what you have and decide what should be done with it.
- Name an executor. This is the person who will oversee your will and make sure your wishes are followed. You can choose anyone, but it should be someone you trust deeply. If you have minor children, you should also name a legal guardian for them.
- Think about your living will options. A living will can be filed along with a basic will. This is your chance to let people know what you want to happen if you become incapacitated. For example, if you want to be taken off life support after a certain amount of time, a living will is your chance to make that clear.
