- Inventory your major assets. Record what you have and decide what should be done with it.
- Name an executor. This is the person who will oversee your will and make sure your wishes are followed. You can choose anyone, but it should be someone you trust deeply. If you have minor children, you should also name a legal guardian for them.
- Think about your living will options. A living will can be filed along with a basic will. This is your chance to let people know what you want to happen if you become incapacitated. For example, if you want to be taken off life support after a certain amount of time, a living will is your chance to make that clear.
